Christmas Parade

My Aunt Roberta called me this afternoon asking me if I want to go to the Christmas Parade, and I almost said no. I've been waging a losing battle with the junk that is cluttering up my closet and I was finally making some progress. I had managed to get most stuff separated into bins and I was hoping to finish up and be done. Then I realized that the whole reason I moved back to Kansas was to spend time with my family so it was stupid to say no just so I could continue to organize my closet. I'm so glad I went!!! We had such a great time and I really enjoyed all the floats. Anybody who knows me knows that I am easily distracted by the lights and they make me happy. (Yeah, I know it's because I'm simple minded.) I started teasing at the beginning that I thought we should do a family float next year. Then we spent most of the parade deciding whether our imaginary float was better than the ones we were seeing. I think I almost convinced her that we should do a float for next year's parade. Now THAT would be fun! I'm pretty sure Noah could come up with some fabulous ideas. He is the one who built a motorized shopping cart for the Holton Parade. I think it would be AWESOME! Who knows what next year will bring! Anybody interesting in helping with a float? :)

Midnight madness

As adults we spend most of our time doing things we have to do. We run errands, clean house, work and all the other "responsible" things necessary in day to day life. Once in a while the opportunity to be silly and do something stupid and fun comes along. Last night was one of those opportunities for me. After working from 7:30 to 4:30 I came home, made some dinner and tried to relax until it was time to leave my apartment. At 9:15 I left my apartment to go pick up Roberta and head to Kansas City. We went and picked up Sheree and her friend Lisa and then headed to Legends for the 12:01 showing of New Moon. For anyone who doesn't know, that is the second movie in the Twilight Saga. We had an awesome time! It was really fun because we were in the VIP section of the movie theater and that was the first time I'd been there. They give you this light and whenever you want something you just turn that light on and a staff member comes to your seat, takes your order then they bring it to you. So you never have to leave your seat to get a drink, popcorn or whatever snacks you want. Plus they serve alcohol, (not that I was drinking because I drove) so only people over 21 could be in that section. How cool is that?!! So the movie starts and of course the whole theater is cheering and whooping and going crazy. It was pretty amusing to see the fanatic reactions. Of course the first time Jacob shows up and takes his shirt off the crowd was going wild again. Which is slightly inappropriate because the kid who plays him is only 17 years old, but most of the people in the theater were probably around his age, so whatever. Roberta, Sheree and I were afraid that we would be the oldest people in the theater, but that was not the case. We also were not the craziest ones, which is a new experience for us. Anyway, the movie was amazing and I was really glad that we went. I wasn't completely excited about the movie because I did not really care for the 2nd book, but the movie was really good. Plus having Roberta, Sheree and I together always results in fantastic conversations that are totally inappropriate and make me laugh until my head and my sides hurt. By the time I dropped Sheree and Roberta off and got home it was around 4 am and I was totally exhausted. But the bottom line is that the chance to act like a crazy teenager was a ridiculous amount of fun and I can't wait to do it again. :)

Texas trip

So I went to Texas to visit Angie, Jason and the kids. I had an absolute blast. I also finally got to meet my mom's new boyfriend. He seems nice. In typical fashion, we planned our entire trip around food. What type of food we wanted and where the best place to get it was. Plus we went to Fiesta Texas in San Antonio which was fun. Granted we waited in traffic for about 2 hours just to get in and then spent most of the day waiting in lines to ride the different rides. But on the positive side, there was funnel cake, so I think it was a good day. Angie and I sat next to each other on the water ride and of course, we got totally drenched! It took several hours for my clothes to dry out. I was seriously soaked down to the skin. Jason thought it was funny because he barely got wet at all. So good sister-in-law that I am, I sat on his lap. I was dripping wet, so then he was wet too. I'm evil and Angie was totally OK with it. Then we we went to Emma Long Park on Saturday and spent the day hanging out in the sun and grilling. The kids and Chance had a great time playing in the water while the grown-ups sat around talking. Turns out Lorraine finally realized what a bad influence she was on me when I was an impressionable 19 year old. giggle...just teasing Granny...I didn't struggle too much against being influenced. The drive home took about 10 hours which is good, but by the time I got home I was broke ass tired and I was sick of being in the car.
